Guntur district is situated on the right bank of Krishna River, that separates it from Krishna district and extends till it empties into the Bay of Bengal. The district is often referred to as the Land of Chillies. Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh is situated in Guntur district, on the banks of River Krishna. The original Sanskrit name (ancient Vedic culture) for Guntur was Garthapuri. The 'Agasthyeswara Sivalayam' in the old city of Guntur is an ancient temple for Siva.

Guntur was successively ruled by famous dynasties such as the Satavahanas, Andhra Ikshvakus, Pallavas, Ananda Gotrika,Vishnukundina, Kota, Vamsa, Chalukyas, Cholas, Kakatiyas, Reddys, Vijayanagara and Qutb Shahis during ancient and medieval times.

Places of historical importance in Guntur District re Amaravathi, Bapatla, Ponnur, Bhattiprolu, Vinukonda, Kotappakonda, Undavalli caves, Gurazala, Macherla, Kondaveedu fort, Tenali and the archaeological museum in Guntur.

Gautama Buddha preached at Dharanikota/Dhanyakatakam near Guntur. Acharya Nagarjuna, an influential Buddhist philosopher taught at Nagarjunakonda and is said to have discovered Mica in 200 BCE.

Since the beginning of Buddhist time, Guntur stood in the forefront in matters of culture, education and civilisation.

As once declared by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Babavaru, SAI NAMAM will spread every inch, devotees of Bhagawan have spread Sai Namam in Guntur district through SSSSO.

BHAGAWANS VISIT & SSSSO IN GUNTUR

1968 marks the formation of SSSSO in Guntur. Prior to that Bhajans, Narayana seva and Nagarsankirtans were held in the residences of devotees and also in Sri Rama Vysya satram. In tourists’ buses devotees were taken in batches. Darshans and Divine discourses of Bhagawan transformed many of them and slowly momentum picked up in activities too - Bal Vikas programs, cleaning the premises of temples, masjids, churches, construction of shelters at bus stops, graveyards and formation of bhajan mandalis , free medical camps, free eye check-ups camps ,polio operations and many more. Recognising the amazing sevas done by Guntur District SSSSO, government also used to extend helping hand whenever required.

During that time, 1977 floods damaged and destroyed the properties of many. It was compassionate Lord who inspired SSSO members to extend seva. SSSSO supplied daily commodities, clothes to the needy victims. Free medical camps were conducted.

Recognising and appreciating the seva activities of SSSSO, Sri. T. Gopal Rao garu, district collector granted land and sanctioned the construction of Swamis mandir. Devotees felt the blessing hand, began mandir construction after taking Bhagawans’ blessings at Parthi.

Inspired by this message of Bhagawan, Sri.Kovelamudi Narayana Rao played active role in construction of Mandir. On his repeated heartfelt requests, Bhagawan agreed to visit Guntur for the inauguration of mandir.

On 06.04.1983 Bhagawan inaugurated the mandir and named it as Sri Sathya Sai Shanthi Sudha. About 3 lakh devotees gathered to have a glimpse of Avatar in Human form and they were fortunate to hear Divine discourse and also witness Jhoola Utsav.

Thus, with abundant blessings of various spiritual, seva and educational activities are being conducted with utmost devotion and zeal. Daily pujas, celebration of festivals of multifaith, free medical check-ups, balavikas, narayan seva, blood donation campaigns, supply of drinking water, staff selection coaching, tailoring classes and many more …

Seva activities performed at various ghats during Krishna Pushkarams remains outstanding.

TO BE REMEMBERED IN THE ANNALS OF GUNTUR SSSSO

Here is the handwritten letter by Bhagawan to Sri. K. Narayana Rao, during the construction of Sri Sathya Sai Sudha –

Ocean is enormous. It is like a whirl pool of confusions. One needs a strong life -boat to cross this ocean. Similarly, remembrance of God and a self-control are the lifeboats to cross

this whirlpool of life filled with combination of happiness-sadness, love-hate, birth-death, afflictions. One should become saintly to reach Divine. Practice is very essential. For this discipline is important. As time is God, spend the time with good deeds, constant contemplation on God, self-control is essential. In should raise from being human to being Divine and experience Divine Bliss. This is essence of all religions. Devotion is the foundation. Man is in constant quest for this truth. This is the secret to understand truth and experience Divine bliss.

Man forgets he is Divine and gets suffers with pain, sorrow and conducts himself in ignorance of ego and attachments. Man is embodiment of Truth, Right Conduct, Peace and Love. As he constantly seeks pleasure through improper conduct, untruth means and falsehood, he suffers. The panacea for this suffering is to have devotion and faith in God and follow the path of truth and love. Just as on churning milk, butter that is hidden in milk is obtained, same way omnipresent God, on constant contemplation with love, takes form with name. Such embodiments of God are the deities in villages. Temple in a village is as important as heart to human being. Humans devoid of heart, villages devoid of temples are like lake without water.

Temples should be taken care as heart is taken care .

As is faith so is devotion

As is devotion so is liberation

As is spiritual sadhana so is visualization of God.
