Nellore district (officially: Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district), located in Coastal Andhra region is one of the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh. The population of the district according to the Census 2011 was 2,966,082 of which 29.07% were urban. Nellore city is its administrative headquarters. The district is bordered by the Bay of Bengal to the east, Kadapa district to the west, Prakasam District to the north, Chittoor district and Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu to the south. The mythological story from Sthala Purana depicts, a lingam in the form of a stone under nelli tree. The place gradually became Nelli-ooru (Nelli=Name of the Tree and ooru=place) and then to present day Nellore.

This region was ruled by Mauryas , Cholas ,Pallavas and Nawabs.

Culture

The most famous Dargah (holy tomb) in AP State Barashaheed dargah is located in Nellore. Every year some lakhs of people visit dargah and receive holy blessings there. Ancient Telugu poets Tikkana, Molla, Marana, Ketana laid foundations for Telugu literature here.

BHAGAWAN – SSSSO

Having one great devotee in a family sanctifies the lives of family members, as well as the entire motherland. The life of Late Maharaja Sri Velugoti Sarvajna Krishnayachedrulavaru is an example. It is his ardent devotion that brought Loving God Sri Sathya Sai Babavaru to Nellore, 28times between the years 1950-1970. As a reward of His devotion, entire Nellore district is sanctified with Divine Touch of Bhagawans Lotus Feet. In gratitude devotees of Nellore district follow Bhagawans message, spread His message through various activities through SSSSO.

Sai Bhakta Traya – Sreeman Dhoopati Tirumalcharyulu, Brahmasri Deepala Pichayya Sastry, Sangubotla Venkataramayya(Sri Rama Sarma) from Nellore district are to be specially remembered as blessed devotees in the fields of Sai Literature and in Sri Sathya Sai fold.

Dr.MV.Krishna Reddy,Sri. M.Dhanvantari Reddy, Sri.Aduri Srinivasa rao, Sri. MSR.Sarma are pioneers in the establishment of SSSSO at Nellore. Apart from the mentioned there are innumerable ardent devotees who are rendering their selfless seva.

To delve into some of the details, Bhagawan visited Nellore in the year 1958 and stayed at the residences of Sri.R.Lakshmi Narasimha Reddy, Sri.Venga Reddy (Gundavaram), Smt.Santhamma, Sri.D. Chalapathi Rao (Kodalavaluru ), Sri. D. Madhusudan Reddy (Cherlopalem). Later Bhagawan blessed devotees of Nellore with His Divine Discourse at Vekatagiri Rajas college.

During His second visit Bhagawan stayed at Vakati Sanjeev Reddys house.

From 1965 itself bhajans,Narayana Sevas and District level meetings were conducted in Nellore district. In 1982 SSSSO extended seva to polio and eye operations camp conducted by Lions club.

In the year 1984 , 165 polio operations and later cataract surgeries were conducted . December ,1984 is remembered with pain as storm and floods destroyed and damaged Nellore districts. SSSSO extended seva in various ways – free medical camps, distribution of daily comodities, Narayana sevas. 2 state level conferences were hosted by SSSSO, Nellore. For Sri Sathya Sai Vibhavari devotees from Nellore, Chittoor and Prakasam visited Divine Abode. Pujaris were taken to Parthi who were blessed with Divine darshan, sparshan and sambhashan.

Sri.KV.Krishnayya, assistant music director was instrumental to inspire many into Bhagawans fold.

Late Sri.Vakati Sanjeevsetty was the first district president of Nellore district. Subsequently Dr.MV.Krishna Reddy, Sri.M. Dhanvantri Reddy,Sri.Aduri Srinivas Reddy, Sri.MSR.Varma have taken forward SSSSO to next level with expansion of Seva, Spiritual and Educational activities.
