Kadapa (formerly known as Cuddapah) is a city in the Rayalseema region of the south-central part of Andhra Pradesh, India . It is the district headquarters of Kadapa district. As of 2011 Census of India, the city had a population of 344,078. It is located 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) south of the Penna River. The city is surrounded on three sides by the Nallamala and Palkonda Hills lying on the tectonic landscape between the Eastern and Western ghats. Black and Red ferrous soils occupy the region. The city is nicknamed "Gadapa" ('threshold') since it is the gateway from the west to the sacred hills of Tirumala.

KADAPA – SANCTIFIED BY DIVINE FEET

Kamalapuram is the fortunate place in Kadapa district, as it was the first place in Kadapa that was sanctified by Divine Touch of Bala Sathya Sai Baba varus Feet. Swami stayed at his elder brother Sri Seshamarajugarus home. Bala Sathya used to walks miles and miles to bring water to the family. There is a pilgrimage place , Pushpagiri. Bala Sathya attended scouts camp and rendered seva setting an example to future devotees by performing various kinds of seva. Bala Sathya composed advertisement songs to promote medical shop of Sri.Katte Subbanna. It is at Kamalapuram railway station that an English man named Ulf observed the brilliant aura around Bala Sathya Sai.

During his studies at Kamalapuram, Bala Sathya had to dance as Rushyendramani (as she could not come to Kamalapuram to give dance performance as planned). On knowing that Sathya had danced as Rushyendramani and pleased the expectations of audience, Kadapa Rama Subbamma Guru, the then district board president of the school praised Bala Sathya’s thoughtful gesture to keep up the reputation of school.

In the year 1962, Bhagawan visited commercial place, Proddatur. Bhagawan stopped at a particular place for 2 minutes. In that spot ,right now bhajans are being conducted. Later Bhagawan delivered Divine discourse at Sri Krishna Gita Ashram. On 22.11.1985, at this same venue Sri Sathya Sai Seva Samithi was formed.

Kadapa district is thus blessed with its association with Avatar.

History of SSSSO, KADAPA

In the year 1966, Smt.Jaya Lakshmamma, batch mate of Bhagawan during His school days, started bhajans and thus formed first bhajan group in Kadapa. When this small bhajan group visited Prasanthi Nilayam, Bhagawan said, “Gangi govu paalu garitadaina chaalau bangaru!”

Thus, with Divine Blessings, in the year 1968, at Vempalli, the first Bhajan mandali was registered. With the expansion of more participants, Smt.Lalitammagaru and her brother Sri.Krishna Murthy Garu conducted Bala Vikas and other spiritual activities. The first District President of Kadapa Sri.Lingala Ramaiah was instrumental to host bhajans at Jammalamadugu. From 1993- 1997, Sri Venkatesam garu, from 1997 -2008 Sri.Meda Subramanyam Garu extended their services as DPs. Presently Dr.S.Surya Prakash Garu is DP of Kadapa district.

With active devotees participating in various activities, SSSSO expanded into various samithis throughout the district.

Board Middle School, Kamalapuram the school in which Bhagawan studied was renovated by ardent devotees, Smt. Gita Sundar Raman and Sri.Sundar Raman. From 29^th August 2004, the school is re-named as Sri Sathya Sai Balala Unnatha Patashala . This beautiful school with about 1000 students has Sri Sathya Sai Prema Amruta Dhara , drinking water also in it.

SSSSO ACTIVITIES IN KADAPA DISTRICT

SPIRITUAL WING ACTIVTIES - Sree Vara Lakshimi pujas, Mass Sathya Sai Vratams, tandularchana, Kum Kum pujas, Ekadas Rudrabhishekam, Sai Gayatri Homam, reading Sai Literature Tapovanam and Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Nitya Narayana Seva at RIMS.

SEVA ACTIVITIES – Narayana Seva, Free Medical Services, distribution of commodities to the needy, seva at temples, seva at orphanages, old age homes

EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES – Bala Vikas, Foundation Courses in Maths, English

MAHILA ACTIVITIES – Distribution of Clothes to New Born On 19^th Of Every Month, COD, Sai Protein preparation and distribution.

Sevakudu nayakudu – ONE WHO SERVES IS THE LEADER…Bhagawan showed through Pushpagiri seva, what is seva and how it has to be conducted. Following His footsteps, Sri Sathya Sai namam and seva is pervading Kadapa district through SSSSO.
